Not surprisingly, the Capital City is always up to snuff on national holidays. Memorial Day is no exception - complete with a moving tribute concert in the shadow of the US Capitol, a wreath-laying ceremony presented by President Obama at Arlington Cemetary, and the outrageous sales at Macy's (an equally American tradition, n'est ce pas?).

Our view of the Capitol throughout the PBS Memorial Day Concert. We went to the dress rehersal and found out later that the actual concert was rained out. We smugly grinned, but only a little.
Natalie Cole, at 62, belting out those notes like she's 26. Loved every minute!
On Monday we took a day trip to the beach. Ocean City, Maryland has more mini-golf courses and ocean-front liquor stores per capita than any other US city.* Here is my friend Nils avoiding those nasty UV's in style.
Have you ever made drizzle castles? They are totes def the best thing to make at the beach.Try it next time - you'll be glad you did.
Look at that masterpiece! Just take handfuls of soaking wet sand and drizzle them into a beautiful castle. Or a Dr.-Seuss-meets-Mordor tower.
Good-looking group at the beach.
Hippie Memorial Day!
